[...consumed all new #49] Spring Special

Filed under: ...consumed all new — Tags: — Graig @ 10:27 am

mshss1_largeFound on the top shelf of JJ’s closet in December while packing for the move, the Marvel Super-Heroes Spring Special from 1990 was the first of about 20 quarterly/seasonal anthologies filled to the brim with lackluster stories from unimpressive talents. This volume featured a mind-numbingly atrocious Moon Knight story (he gets changed in the back of a police car for cripes sake… while the police are driving!), a painful Hercules story, a Hellcat feature I skipped altogether, a Brother Voodoo story which was surprising only in that Fred Hembeck illustrated in a non-cartoony style (also didn’t read, I mean it’s Brother Voodoo, come on!), a horrible Speedball story illustrated by Steve Ditko who was already well past his prime, a Majik story (skipped) and a Black Panther story which was decent, but far from capable of redeeming this volume. The cover’s not bad… I’m guess either Mignola or Kevin Nowlan did it… in either case not their best work, but decent.

Also found was Marvel Super-Heroes #3 (Winter Special) which I’m not looking forward to perusing.

[...learned #49] math bytes dog

I did not know that 1 kilobyte = 0.0009765625 megabytes… I guess I always just assumed that the mega to kilo to giga ratio would be a bit more… even. Thankfully, the internet has handy dandy conversion tools to help keep it all straight.
Do you want to know why they aren’t easily convertible by degrees of 10? Me neither, but this kinda breaks it all down nicely.

[...about me #49] done waiting

Filed under: ...about me — Tags: — Graig @ 3:44 pm

Aden and I eat out for lunch on an irregular basis (we’ve been pretty good about bringing lunches to work since the big debt reduction spree of 2008) and almost everywhere we go, I have an almost uncanny knack for getting my lunch order not just after Aden, but sometimes looong after. It doesn’t matter if I order first or second, it just takes a while. Even what would seem like the simplest of orders (the already all ready, prepped to go lunch special) seems to get cocked up and I have to wait for some ungodly reason. Sit down places this doesn’t happen quite as much in, but take out, yep… a knack. It’s probably the cosmos telling me I should really bring my lunch more often.

A hot dog from the local sidewalk merchant. Yumm.

“Hey! If you were a hot dog…and you were starving, would you eat yourself? …
I know I would! First, I’d smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I’d be so delicious!”
- Harry Caray (as played by Will Ferrell)
